What is the Male Leadership Symposium?
The 3rd Annual DeSoto ISD Male Leadership Symposium will be held April 22, 2017, at DeSoto High School. Our theme this year is “Courageous Leadership in a Global Society.”
The Male Leadership Symposium is the premier leadership development program in the Metroplex for young men. It is an extraordinary event is designed to empower, energize, and educate one of the world’s greatest assets, minority males, which are often squandered because of real, involuntary, and sometimes self-imposed barriers.
Our goal is to provide relevant experiences for minority males that will ensure success academically, professionally and socially through development in the following areas: education, business, leadership, social justice issues, STEM and community involvement. Ultimately we will propel our minority males to achieve success as individuals and as contributors to the larger community and society.
Understanding that in order to be successful, as well as committed, to supporting the development of minority males we must solicit the support and expertise of servant leaders with a passion for service. One never knows what alters a path for a child! It could be a word of praise, a tragedy, or any life experience. We believe our children deserve exposure to as many of these types of life-altering experiences as possible.
The event includes notable male leaders in the fields of medicine, law, sports, education, entertainment, and more. These individuals will instill high expectations and serve as positive role models for the young men who attend. In addition, we provide information on academic value, college readiness, and STEM careers.
2017 Male Leadership Symposium:
Target – Minority males in grades 6-12
Target attendance – 1,200
The Male Leadership Symposium was a vision of our current Board Vice President Aubrey C. Hooper to create a platform to help young boys of color to reach their full potential. From this idea, the male leadership symposium was birthed. In the past two years, this program has already had a significant impact on the lives of thousands of young men.
