March 6, 2020 Update

DeSoto ISD Families and Staff:

DeSoto ISD continues to monitor the latest updates regarding the spread of the COVID-19 virus (Coronavirus) by maintaining communication with the Dallas County Public Health Department and following guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC).

Local health authorities continue to report that the virus is not yet spreading through North Texas and the risk of getting Coronavirus locally and throughout the North Texas region remains low. There are still no confirmed cases of the illness in Tarrant and Dallas County.

DeSoto ISD will continue to communicate any significant updates by emailing families and staff and will continue to update and post resources on the district website at www.DeSotoISD.org/Coronovirus.

The District continues to follow all precautions and guidelines provided by local, state, and national health authorities.

Over Spring Break, the district will clean and sanitize all offices, campuses and classrooms with medical-grade cleaning solutions as recommended by the CDC. To date, the district has also placed hand sanitizing stations throughout buildings and campuses.

Specific information about how DeSoto ISD’s responds to influenza and other viruses can also be found at http://www.desotoisd.org/departments/student_support_services/health_services.

The CDC continues to recommend preventative actions to stop the spread of germs, including:

  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick
  • Staying home when you are sick, except to get medical care
  • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throwing the tissue in the trash
  • Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe
  • Washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
(If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if your hands are visibly dirty.

Many have expressed concerns about students traveling for Spring Break. At this time, the CDC has not placed any recommended restrictions on travel within the United States.

Again, DeSoto ISD is monitoring all of these situations on a daily basis, regularly communicating with local and state health officials and will continue to provide updates.  In the meantime, we ask that you be aware of the following resources for more information about Coronavirus and address the situation with your child:
