The DeSoto ISD Council of PTAs has worked tirelessly to partner with area businesses and organizations to assist the district with important projects and programs.  A recent community grant from WalMart provided partial or complete funding for multiple high impact initiatives in the DeSoto ISD community.

The Walmart Community Grant directly impacted these PTA projects:

$850 donation to train DHS students the art of face painting and entrepreneurship. Students were subsequently hired in paid community events earning up to $20-$25/hour.

$500 donation for the Superintendent’s Toy Drive.

$1,000 donation for supplies for DeSoto’s S.W.A.P. (Serving with a Purpose) Resource Center PTA Room for teachers.

$1,050 donation for the SMU Basketball Experience - McCowan, Katherine Johnson (KJ) and DeSoto West students (60) and adult chaperones (10) tickets.  The SMU Basketball experience includes an SMU college presentation, game tickets, t-shirt, hot dog meal and one of our students singing the National Anthem!  Note:  Activity delayed until 2022-2023 school year due to inclement weather.

The Council hired a DHS student artist to hand paint the S.W.A.P. Resource Center PTA Room mural.  We paid the student $250 for supplies and services rendered.

$2,500 donation to the Katherine Johnson (KJ) Technology Magnet Academy for ‘Fresh Prince of Stale Air’ initiative to fund air filter devices for classrooms.

With support from Community Leaders like Walmart, the PTA Council was able to effectively realize a successful year of service and financial backing for students, educators and district initiatives.
