The DeSoto Independent School District has grown since the district’s humble beginnings as a single-frame schoolhouse for the once rural farming community. In the same way that the once rural farm community quickly outgrew the single-frame schoolhouse, the district finds itself on the precipice of a similar outlook as it assesses its facilities.

Whereas, in the previously referenced analogy, the sheer increase in scholars and families along with advancements in architecture and school structures were the impetus for expanding schools at the time, in 2024, aligning schools to the modern and evolved learning needs of district scholars is the current focus.

As the DeSoto ISD Triple-A Experience of Academics, Arts, and Athletics continues to evolve along with industry and choice programming options and opportunities, a cross-section of community stakeholders has been meeting to discuss and develop ideas regarding the future of district facilities.

The group of former trustees, parents, staff, community stakeholders, and business and civic leaders began by developing a foundational understanding of the current state of district facilities and the highest priority needs for building maintenance and upkeep. The group, then, transitioned to discuss areas of opportunity with regard to programs and student experiences.

In their work together, the committee developed three scenarios for a possible bond project which was narrowed down to two options before defining a final recommendation to be taken before the Board of Trustees for review and consideration.

The district will host a public town hall meeting on January 22, 2025, at the DeSoto ISD Instructional Support Center Boardroom during which time the community will have the opportunity to learn more about the facility planning process, the proposed recommendations, and next steps.
