The DeSoto High School boys’ and girls’ soccer teams are gearing up for an exciting new season with high expectations. Both squads are determined to build on past successes and make a strong push in district competition.
The DHS boys’ soccer team, led by head coach Edgar Guerra, is looking to continue its growth after a promising season last year.
"I’m very optimistic about this upcoming season because I believe we have one of the strongest varsity teams, and we're going to challenge some of the top teams in the district," said Guerra.
With several returning players, including key veterans in midfield and defense, the team aims to improve its offensive output and strengthen its defense in preparation for tough district matchups.
“Last year, we had an amazing varsity team," said Guerra. "This year, we have mostly the same players who are more disciplined, working harder, and learning from last year's mistakes.”
Under the leadership of Coach Billy Johnson, The DeSoto High School girls' soccer team is optimistic about the upcoming season. With a roster primarily made up of sophomores, the team features several returning players who played key roles last season. They are focused on building team chemistry and refining their technical skills on both ends of the field.
"I'm really excited about this season, and the future looks bright for DeSoto girls' soccer," said Johnson. "They’re dedicated, motivated, hungry, and always ready to put in the work."
The girls are also focused on improving their consistency in both attack and defense, hoping to secure a top spot in the competitive district standings and make a run in the playoffs.
The DeSoto girls’ soccer team is still hosting tryouts, and interested players are encouraged to join.
As the season progresses, DHS soccer fans can expect fast-paced and competitive games as both the boys' and girls' teams look to make their mark in their respective leagues.
Fans are encouraged to support the teams as they begin what is expected to be a thrilling season of high school soccer.
