DeSoto ISD Celebrates Teacher Appreciation Month and Announces Teacher Job Fair on May 31
In honor of Teacher Appreciation Month, DeSoto Independent School District is proud to celebrate the incredible work of its educators who inspire and shape the future of tomorrow’s leaders. As frontline responders in classrooms across the district, teachers are making an indelible impact on students' academic, emotional, and social development.
In an era where the national teacher shortage has posed challenges across the education industry, the value, sacrifice, and dedication of DeSoto ISD’s teachers have never been more apparent. These professionals not only impart knowledge but also foster an environment of care, understanding, and support that helps students overcome obstacles and achieve success.
“Our teachers are truly the heart and soul of DeSoto ISD,” said Chasiti McKissic, President of the DeSoto ISD Board of Trustees. “In times of uncertainty, they continue to step up with unwavering dedication, creating safe spaces for learning and providing a foundation for future success. We celebrate their efforts and are deeply grateful for the tireless contributions they make to our district every day.”
As part of the Teacher Appreciation Month celebrations, DeSoto ISD will host several activities across the district to recognize and honor teachers for their hard work. These celebrations will continue throughout the month, culminating in a Teacher Job Fair on May 31 at Woodridge Elementary in DeSoto. This event is designed to attract passionate and skilled educators to join the DeSoto ISD family. The district invites prospective teachers to explore career opportunities and meet with staff to learn more about the culture and resources available in DeSoto ISD.
“Teachers are the most important resource in our schools, and their commitment to student success goes beyond the classroom,” said Dr. Usamah Rodgers, Superintendent of Schools. “In DeSoto ISD, we believe that strong, supported teachers are essential to student achievement. We are excited to host this job fair as part of our ongoing efforts to recruit top talent who are ready to make a lasting impact on our students and schools.”
The district’s emphasis on teacher recruitment is part of a broader strategy to ensure that every student receives a high-quality education in a supportive environment. DeSoto ISD is actively looking to hire dedicated educators who are passionate about creating inclusive, innovative, and engaging learning experiences for students.
Stephanie McCloud, Chief Academic Officer for DeSoto ISD, added, “Our teachers are not just educators—they are mentors, role models, and advocates for every student. We want to attract educators who are committed to fostering an environment of equity and excellence. The job fair is an excellent opportunity for candidates to learn more about the district’s supportive culture and the resources we provide to our staff to help them succeed.”
The district’s teachers also inspire leadership at the campus level, as demonstrated by principals like Dr. Brittany Strickland, Interim Principal of DeSoto West. “Our teachers are nothing short of extraordinary,” said Dr. Strickland. “Their commitment to the success of each and every student is evident in everything they do. As we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Month, we also look forward to welcoming new educators who will continue our legacy of excellence in education.”
DeSoto ISD remains committed to supporting its teachers with professional development, resources, and recognition to ensure that they continue to thrive in their roles.
