DeSoto ISD Encourages Staff to Wear Neon on December 3–4 in Support of Scholars Receiving Special Education Services

DeSoto Independent School District remains steadfast in its
commitment to providing an equitable, high-quality education for all scholars.
This commitment is rooted in the belief that every child—regardless of ability,
background, or need—deserves to learn in an environment where they feel
supported, valued, and empowered to thrive.
In recognition of this commitment and in alignment with the
district’s ongoing efforts to elevate awareness and inclusion, DeSoto ISD is
asking all staff to wear neon colors on December 3 and 4. This collective
gesture serves as a visible demonstration of support for scholars receiving
special education services and honors the educators and families who partner
daily to ensure meaningful progress for students with diverse learning needs.
“At DeSoto ISD, we are intentional about creating learning
environments where every scholar feels seen and supported,” said Stephanie
Fuller, Executive Director of Special Populations. “Wearing neon is a
simple but powerful way to illuminate our dedication to inclusion and to
highlight the bright potential our students bring to our classrooms and
community.”
This districtwide action also underscores DeSoto ISD’s
broader commitment to inclusive schools—an effort that includes strengthening
instructional practices, expanding resources, and deepening collaboration
across campuses to ensure that scholars receiving special education services
have equitable access to academic and social-emotional supports.
“Supporting all learners starts with creating a culture
where every child belongs,” said Stephanie McCloud, Chief Academic Officer.
“Our staff’s participation in this neon initiative symbolizes our shared
responsibility to champion students of all abilities. It reflects our belief
that inclusive practices benefit every classroom and strengthen our entire
educational community.”
As the district continues its work to provide high-quality
services tailored to students’ individual needs, leaders emphasize that
inclusion is not just an initiative—it is a core value embedded in the fabric
of the district’s mission.
“Our scholars deserve a community that stands with them,
advocates for them, and celebrates them,” said Dr. Usmaah Rodgers,
Superintendent of Schools. “By wearing neon, we send a message of unity and
commitment to ensuring that every student has access to the opportunities and
supports that will help them succeed. This is who we are as DeSoto
ISD—champions for all children.”
DeSoto ISD encourages all staff to join in this symbolic
show of support on December 3 and 4 as the district continues its unwavering
work to uplift, empower, and advocate for every scholar it serves.
