DeSoto ISD Celebrates DeSoto Alternative Education Program Principal Homer Webb III Named National Life Group “LifeChanger of the Year” Award Winner
DeSoto ISD proudly announces that DeSoto Alternative Education Program (DAEP) Principal Homer Webb III has been selected as a National Life Group “LifeChanger of the Year” Award winner, a prestigious national honor recognizing outstanding K–12 educators and school employees who make a lasting, positive impact on students and school communities.
The award follows an extensive nationwide nomination and selection process in which Principal Webb was elevated through an online campaign supported by the DeSoto community, advancing past more than 1,000 educators to earn one of the program’s highest distinctions. As part of the recognition, Webb receives a $3,000 cash prize, which includes a $1,500 personal award and a $1,500 donation to the DeSoto Alternative Education Program.
Principal Webb has served DeSoto ISD since 2005, when he began as an assistant principal at Amber Terrace Intermediate School. Throughout his career, he has become widely recognized for his unwavering commitment to students who need additional support, consistently fostering an environment rooted in hope, opportunity, and second chances.
What distinguishes Webb’s leadership is his intentional effort to expand students’ horizons beyond their immediate circumstances. As a licensed pilot, he has brought his experiences directly to students, once flying a plane and allowing students to see it up close to help them envision possibilities beyond their current environment. He regularly engages community leaders, business owners, former students, and professional athletes to speak with scholars, helping them connect aspiration with access.
Principal Webb’s personal journey has also shaped his leadership philosophy. Growing up in a community with limited opportunities, he benefited from access to Gifted and Talented programming and strong family support, ultimately earning a Master’s degree from Dallas Baptist University. His lived experience continues to fuel his passion for ensuring that every student he serves has access to opportunity and encouragement.
“Principal Webb is more than an educator. He is a visionary and a fierce believer in the potential of every child,” said Tracy Arline, Webb’s nominator. “His story proves that true leadership isn't about authority, but about authenticity and compassion. For these reasons, and so many more, Principal Homer Webb does not just deserve the LifeChanger of the Year award — he embodies it.”
Webb was formally surprised with the recognition during a school assembly attended by district representatives and colleagues.
