DeSoto ISD Board of Trustees Canvasses Election Results, Swears in Trustees, and Elects New Officers

On Monday, May 11, 2026, the DeSoto Independent School District Board of Trustees held a special ceremony to formally canvass the results of the May 2 general election and swear in the newly elected and returning board members.
Official Canvassing and Swearing-In Ceremony
During the meeting, the board officially certified the election results, confirming the community's voice in the governance of the district. Following the canvassing, Dallas County Judge Mike Jones facilitated the oath of office for the following trustees:
- Place 3: Karen E. Lacy (Returning Incumbent)
- Place 4: James (JD) Durham (Returning Incumbent)
- Place 5: DeAndrea Fleming (New Trustee)
In the Place 5 race, DeAndrea Fleming secured the seat over incumbent Abe C. Cooper Jr. Trustees Karen Lacy and James Durham returned to the dais after running unopposed for their respective positions.
Election of 2026-2027 Board Officers
After the ceremony, the Board of Trustees conducted its internal election for officer positions. The board is pleased to announce the leadership team for the 2026-2027 academic year:
- Board President Karen E. Lacy
- Vice President DeAndrea Fleming
- Secretary Cynthia Watson Banks
The newly elected officers will officially assume their new roles next Monday for the regular school board progress monitoring meeting.
