April is Autism Awareness Month and students at Cockrell Hill Elementary made it their mission to kick off Autism Awareness Month by showcasing their scholars.  The campus  paused to celebrate its students by hosting a Shining the Light on Autism parade. The scholars marched around the building shining their flashlights while teachers, scholars, and parents lined the hallways with cheers and clapping. Then, the lights were dimmed and music playing set the perfect ambiance for scholars to meet and take pictures with our very own superintendent, Dr. Usamah Rodgers.

"At Cockrell Hill Elementary, we are grateful to have a warm staff that supports our autism populations," said Pamela McCoy, CHE staff.

The campus has plans for more events this month including a career day, a gallery walk, and a field day for its students.
DeSoto ISD offers a continuum of services to students that are identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Each student's plan is individualized based on their individual needs.
