DeSoto High School students began this spring semester with others in mind as they took part in a campus community service project themed, Adopt a Healthcare Worker. The students in various classes created digital thank you cards to share with nurses and other essential healthcare workers at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

According to DHS A2E2 Site Coordinator, Sophia Jones projects like these help promote a sustained love for community service amongst DeSoto ISD students and while helping to bring some smiles to the faces during this pandemic season.

“We wanted to bring real-world experiences to our students which allowed them to have their voices heard by ‘Saying thank you for all you do’,” said Jones.

The project is an extension of the district’s A2E2  Magnet program which DeSoto ISD A2E2 Magnet Programs will personalize learning through rich and impactful experiences, equipping students with 21st-century skills needed for college and career readiness.

The multitude of cards was received by UT southwestern Director of Service Coordination Renee Bailey who briefly shared the hospital’s appreciation for students’ gesture of kindness.

“The cards are wonderful, big thanks to your students from UTSW! We appreciate the thoughtfulness and support,” she said.

This community service project is one of the many projects scheduled for this school year. The next project is designed to help other Eagles in their campus community.
