DeSoto ISD

In accordance with Senate Bill 10 (SB 10), recently passed by the Texas Legislature and signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott, DeSoto Independent School District will implement the required posting of the Ten Commandments in every classroom across the district.

SB 10 mandates that all Texas public schools display the Ten Commandments in a "conspicuous place" within each classroom, using the specific language and format outlined by the state. The legislation takes effect on September 1, 2025, and is part of a broader effort by state leaders to reintroduce certain religious principles into public education.

Implementation Plan

DeSoto ISD will:

Install state-compliant framed copies of the Ten Commandments in every classroom across elementary, middle, and high school campuses.

Work with vendors to ensure displays meet the required font size, language, and placement standards.

Provide professional development for staff to address questions and ensure culturally responsive implementation.

Continue to foster an inclusive school culture that honors diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

While the law mandates the presence of the display, DeSoto ISD affirms that no instruction or religious teaching tied to the Ten Commandments will be required or conducted, in accordance with constitutional guidelines regarding religion in public schools.

Legal Considerations
The district is closely monitoring any ongoing legal developments related to SB 10 and will remain in alignment with guidance from the Texas Education Agency and legal counsel. Should judicial rulings or new guidance alter the legal landscape, the district will adapt accordingly.
