DeSoto Independent School District (ISD) is proud to announce that DeSoto West Middle School has made history by inducting its first-ever group of Chartered National Beta Club members. On April 29, 2025, 50 students, spanning 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, officially became members of this prestigious organization, marking a milestone for both the school and the district.

The newly established National Beta Club at DeSoto West Middle School has been recognized as a School of Merit, a designation given to schools with high-achieving students who consistently demonstrate exceptional academic performance, leadership, and a commitment to service. Through their membership in the National Beta Club, students will have opportunities to compete with other scholars, further develop leadership skills, and engage in meaningful community service projects.

“We are extremely proud of these students and their hard work,” said Orlando Robinson, MA, MS, Restorative Practices and Positive Behavior Coordinator, All Pro-Dads Co-Captain, National Beta Club Lead Sponsor, and National Junior Honor Society Lead Advisor at DeSoto West Middle School. “This is a huge accomplishment for our school community, and these students have demonstrated the qualities that define excellence: leadership, character, and a commitment to service. We are excited to watch them grow and thrive through the opportunities National Beta Club offers.”

In addition to their Beta Club induction, Mr. Robinson played a pivotal role in challenging students to excel academically. In September 2024, he encouraged students to strive for A Honor Roll status, and his efforts were met with success. Fifteen students earned A Honor Roll recognition at some point during the 2024-2025 academic year.

The National Beta Club, founded in 1934, is a leading organization dedicated to recognizing and celebrating outstanding students who demonstrate Academic Achievement, Leadership, Character, and Service to others. With over 9,000 chartered clubs and more than 500,000 active members across the nation, the Beta Club has long been a symbol of excellence in education.

Dr. Brittany Strickland, Interim Principal of DeSoto West Middle School, expressed her pride in the achievement: “Today marks an incredible achievement for our students, staff, and community. The induction of the first-ever National Beta Club members is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our students. We are committed to fostering an environment that encourages academic excellence, leadership, and service, and we look forward to continuing this tradition of success at DeSoto West Middle School.”

The students of DeSoto West Middle School’s National Beta Club will now join a network of thousands of high-achieving students nationwide, participating in a variety of educational and service-based initiatives designed to enhance their academic careers and prepare them for future success.
