DeSoto ISD to Host March 5 Kinder Choice Fair for Pre-Kindergarten Families

On March 5, 2024, DeSoto ISD parents and families at Amber Terrace Early Childhood Learning Center are invited to attend the DeSoto ISD Kinder Choice Fair, an opportunity for families of pre-kindergarten-aged scholars at Amber Terrace to learn about and choose a DeSoto ISD elementary school.

“What sets DeSoto ISD elementary schools apart from others, is the fact that all district campuses are A or B-rated according to the state’s most recent accountability scores,” said DeSoto ISD Chief Academic Officer Stephanie McCloud. “But even more than the accountability ratings, our campuses are truly special places where scholars develop strong learning foundations as evidenced by positive school climate; cohesive and collaborative staff; parent and community involvement and partnerships; strong, accessible campus leaders; and rigorous curriculum that meets scholars where they are and encourages their growth on an individualized basis.”

The event will feature special presentations led by representatives from each campus and an opportunity for families to engage with campus teachers and leaders to determine which campus is an appropriate fit for their scholar(s).

DeSoto ISD Elementary Schools include the following campuses:

  • Cockrell  Hill Elementary School (K-2)

    • CHE is a neighborhood school in the cozy neighborhoods located just off Cockrell Hill Road in DeSoto. Neighborhood schools reflect the character, investment, partnership, and needs of the neighborhoods in which they reside. These schools are built on the premise of community and engagement, a space that feels like home and where students and families find belongingness and inclusion within the campus community.

  • Katherine Johnson Technology Magnet Academy (K-8)

    • Katherine Johnson Technology Magnet Academy provides studies in STEM with specializations in aerospace and aviation honoring the legacy of the school's namesake and her brave pursuit of math-focus space aviation in a time that required courage and an audacious spirit through project-based learning. The Defense industry in DFW is the 4th largest industry. All of the Defense companies in the industry focus on aerospace and aviation. Building a school that prepares a pipeline into companies like Boeing, SAFRAN, Bell, Northrop Grumman, L3Harris, Raytheon Technologies, or Lockheed Martin would give our students a competitive advantage in the DFW job market in which minorities are sorely underrepresented.

  • Ruby Young Personalized STEAM Academy (K-8)

    • Ruby Young Environmental Science Academy includes environmental science and agriculture as supported by partnerships like Texas A&M,  Prairie View A&M, and Paul Quinn College among others. Imagine a world where students embark on daily learning adventures in nature where science and tech come to life to sustain the world around us.

  • The Meadows Elementary Schools (K-5)

    • TME is a neighborhood school nestled in The Meadows residential area. Neighborhood schools reflect the character, investment, partnership, and needs of the neighborhoods in which they reside. These schools are built on the premise of community and engagement, a space that feels like home and where students and families find belongingness and inclusion within the campus community.

  • Woodridge Elementary School (K-4)

    • Woodridge Classical Arts and Humanities Academy provides opportunities in art- and humanities-focused elementary environments in which students will study and engage in the visual and performing arts such as foundational drawing, painting, sculpture, dance, music, and theatre alongside English/language arts, history, and cultural studies.
