PTA Receives Grant from Walmart

The DeSoto ISD PTA Council is proud to announce the receipt of a Community Grant from Walmart in the amount of $5,000. This community grant is offered to non-profit community groups to help further their mission to improve the quality of life of community members.

The DeSoto ISD PTA Council is the guiding force behind the district’s campus PTAs and is on a mission to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.

“We are truly excited to receive this grant and confident that it will help us move further toward our organizational goal to support the parents, staff, and students of DeSoto ISD,” Michelle Carter-Pope, DeSoto ISD PTA Council president. “It is critical to the functioning of our organization. Without financial support from others, we would be able to do the things that we do for our parents and students.

The Walmart Community Grant program is specifically aimed at helping to improve the local community. These grants range from a minimum of $250 to the maximum grant of $5,000 through an application process. There are various categories of funding for which an organization can apply for grants through Walmart which include. They include hunger relief and healthy eating, health and human service, quality of life, education, community, and economic development, diversity and inclusion, public safety, and environmental sustainability.

For Carter-Pope, this grant will allow the Council to better support its teachers and students.

“Specifically, we can fund scholarships and grants for students and staff, celebrate our volunteers and support the local resource center with whom we have partnered to provide support for our teachers and their families,” said Carter-Pope.

Walmart Logistics Senior Directors Curtis Brumfield received the request from the DeSoto ISD PTA Council and was extremely supportive of its area school district.

“One of the goals of Walmart is to help the communities in which we are located. The awarding of this grant allowed us to support a variety of needs in the community - like hunger, education, scholarships, and more through one organization,” said Brumfield. “The school system is where it starts and that is what is going to build us a future in DeSoto.”

DeSoto ISD is proud to have the support of its local community businesses to further its mission of helping students learn and grow at their highest levels.
