DeSoto ISD's June Villers Selected as TTHSCA Coach of the Year and NHSACA Hall of Fame Recipient
DeSoto ISD is proud to congratulate Assistant Athletic Director and DHS Girls Track & Field Head Coach June Villers on her recent selection as one of the Texas High School Coaches Association’s (TTHSCA) inaugural Coach of The Year Winners & National High School Athletic Coaches Association (NHSACA) Hall of Fame Recipients.
TTHSCA announced Villers recognition along with Westlake’s Todd Dodge who received the same recognition for the boys coaching division. Both Dodge and Villers will also be inducted by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association as National High School Hall of Fame Coaches.
“Coach Dodge and Coach Villers had exceptional seasons in 2020-2021 as they both led their teams to championships,” said Joe Martin, the Executive Director of the Texas High School Coaches Association. “Both Todd and June are considered one of the best and most talented coaches in Texas High School Sports. There is a ton of respect and appreciation for the leadership both have presented during their coaching and administrative careers. THSCA is honored to have two Hall of Fame coaches as a part of the association. Who better to take the lead in our first annual Coach of the Year awards? Congrats, to both Coach Dodge and Coach Villers!”
The NHSACA will honor both Coach Dodge and Coach Villers at the National Coaches Convention in Altoona, Iowa on June 21, 2022, during their Hall of Fame Ceremony. THSCA plans to recognize their Boys and Girls Coach of the Year likely during the 2022 Coaching School Convention.
Coach June Villers currently serves as Desoto’s Girl’s Head Track Coach and Assistant Athletic Director. Villers has coached track and field for the last 25 years with 19 of those years at DeSoto High School--for 14 of those years, Villers served solely as the head coach before being named the district’s assistant athletic director during the last six years.
Under her leadership, the DHS girls track team won the 2021 6A-UIL state championship title and is looking to secure a back-to-back state title again this season.
The Desoto Eagles Track and Field team has won the 6A-UIL state championships in 2021, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2013, 2012, and 2011 with runner-up finishes in 2015, 2010, and 2008.
The DeSoto Eagles Girls Track team has won the district meet every year since 2004 and won 14 Regional Championships over the last 15 years.
While the team is continuing to soar, so is their leader. Before this latest milestone, some of Villers’ awards included:

2017: DeSoto High School Alumni Hall of Fame Award
2017, 2016 and 2012: Prairie View Interscholastic League Coaches Association Coach of the Year in Track and Field
2016: USTFCCCA Coach of the Year - Texas (United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association)
2014: Coach of the Year by Texas Girls Coaches Association
2013: National Coach of the Year by National High School Coaches Association
In addition to her coaching role, Villers taught high school math for 19 years and served as the math department leader for seven of those years.
She is certified in secondary physical education and mathematics and is also a certified athletic administrator according to the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.
Villers is a proud graduate of DeSoto High and a noted track scholar during her time in the district as a student.
