Dr. DeAndrea Fleming is an advocate, ally, and thought leader in the advancement and equity of education for students and communities of all socioeconomic compositions. Dr. Fleming began her path in education as a classroom teacher and coach before assuming educational leadership roles in both large and small urban and suburban school systems. Deeply passionate about education, Dr. Fleming shifted her position of educational advocacy to serve as a trustee for the DeSoto Independent School District following her 2018 appointment to the district’s Board of Trustees.

Currently serving as Board President for the DeSoto ISD, Dr. Fleming also previously served as the 2018-2019 Regional Vice President of the Texas Caucus of Black School Board Members and is an active member of NABSE (National Association of Black School Educators), TABSE (Texas Association of Black School Educators), and SWABSE (Southwest Dallas County Alliance of Black School Educators) where she serves as the Immediate Past-President after having held Executive Board roles as President, President-Elect, and Parliamentarian.

In light of her sincere dedication and service to educational advocacy and leadership, Dr. Fleming was named the TABSE School Board Member of the Year and the SWDCABSE School Board Member of the Year in 2019. That same year, Dr. Fleming testified before the State Board of Education in Austin to support the design and implementation of an African American Studies Course framework for students in the state of Texas.

The following year, in 2020, Dr. Fleming earned the highest attainment of Master Trustee through Leadership TASB (Texas Association of School Boards). Since 2020, Dr. Fleming has served as a TASB delegate assisting in creating policies lobbied in upcoming Legislative Sessions and provided insight on panels regarding superintendency, athletic administration, and Social-Emotional Learning. Given her platform, Dr. Fleming used her voice and platform to speak out as an activist against existent injustices in educational systems and communities of color.

A proud 25-year member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Dr. Fleming holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing with a minor in African American Studies; a master's degree in Training and Development, Divinity and dual Master of Education Degrees in Education Administration and Education Technology. Dr. Fleming recently completed a Ph.D. in Christian Leadership with a specialization in Clinical Christian Counseling.

With more than 20 years of experience in education, Dr. Fleming is deeply knowledgeable about improving educational policy for equity and academics in low socio-economic, high-at-risk school districts. A resourceful, multi-faceted leader with a wide range of skills, Dr. Fleming has a proven track record of improving student outcomes; impactful school board governance and policy leadership; organizational operations, personnel, and budget management; and community engagement.

DeSoto ISD Trustee Traci McNairy has been involved in education for twenty years.  She started her career as an English teacher in the DeSoto Independent School District at East Middle School where she taught for two years.  In addition to her work as a classroom teacher, McNairy also held the role of Instructional Coach, and served as an Academic Specialist on the Texas Literacy Initiative.

She is currently employed as an Educational Consultant and Curriculum Specialist and continues to stay abreast of research proven instructional strategies and best practices.

Trustee McNairy has been rooted in the DeSoto community for fourteen years and is the proud parent of three children – one son, Eric and two daughters, Diamond and Jade.  Her daughters are DeSoto High School graduates.

In addition to her work in education, McNairy is also a fitness enthusiast. She holds a 200-hour registered yoga certificate and also enjoys Zumba and hiking.  She believes parental and community involvement is key for the success of our students in support of our educators.

Trustee McNairy is a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction.

Chasiti McKissic

Chasiti McKissic, a proud graduate, previous parent, and wife to DeSoto ISD alumnus, was elected to serve as DeSoto ISD Trustee in May 2022. After graduating from DeSoto High School, Chasiti earned a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Houston. She continued her education to earn a Master’s degree in the Art of Teaching from Texas Woman’s University and a second Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of North Texas. During her 13-years as an educator, Chasiti has served in various capacities from classroom teacher, campus leader, district leader, to now a Regional Director of Operations.

Outside of serving the community of DeSoto ISD, Chasiti serves as President of the Southwest Dallas County Alliance of Black School Educators (SWABSE), a founding member of Impact DeSoto, a community coalition formed by the 2021 Leadership ISD DeSoto cohort , and an active member of the Alpha Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

Chasiti is committed to the work of ensuring Excellence in Academics, Engaging the Community, & Encouraging Student Voice as key attributes to the success of ALL students in DeSoto ISD.

Cynthia Watson Banks

A lifelong educator having spent 7 years as a Special Needs Coordinator at Head Start of Greater Dallas, in the classroom 20 years at DeSoto ISD. I was born in Lubbock, Texas and grew up in the sub division of Lorenzo, Texas, graduated from Lorenzo High School. I continued my education at West Texas State University. I am a wife, a mother, and a believer that I can do all things through Christ that strengthen me. I am an advocate for equity, fairness, and opportunity for all children to be educated.  Life Member of the PTA, Member of the Antioch Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, and volunteer with Sisterhood Helping Hands. I am a firm believer that success in education is about building relationships with our students, staff, parents, and community, and to establish strong connections committed to collaborative learning that engages students, staff, families and the community. 

Karen Daniel

Karen Daniel, re-elected May 9, 2017, and sworn-in May 22, 2017, for a second three-year term, is a retired, lifelong educator having spent 44 years in the classroom including 33 at DeSoto High School. She grew up in Dallas and graduated from South Oak Cliff High School. She went on to earn her BA in English from UTA and Master's in Public School Administration from UNT. She and her husband Curtis, also retired from DHS, have three children who all graduated from DHS. "I am a wife, a mother, a teacher, a Christian community member, and a lifelong learner." She believes every student should have the opportunity to receive an excellent education in our public schools in an environment that is conducive to learning. Parents, students, teachers, and administrators are all accountable for this education. Her goals include encouraging academic excellence, providing a safe/disciplined student environment and preparing students for future success. In 2016 she was inducted into the DeSoto ISD Hall of Honors. 

Tiffany Clark

Tiffany Clark, born and raised in DeSoto, attended DeSoto schools and graduated from DHS in 2007. After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Houston, Clark came back to DeSoto and took her first job at West MS, where she worked as a science teacher, focusing on STEM participation. She continued her education at UNT with a Master’s in Education, concentration on School and Community Counseling and currently works as a counselor in Waxahachie ISD. Tiffany completed her Doctorate in Education degree with a concentration in Conflict Resolution – focusing her research on African-American female principals who are transformational leaders in Title 1, low-poverty, schools with exceptional teacher retention rates in the state of Texas at Abilene Christian University. When not devoting time to students, Tiffany is actively engaged as a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (Upsilon Lambda Omega, DeSoto, TX). She is a faithful and proud member of Friendship-West Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Frederick D. Haynes III.

Abe Cooper Jr.

Abe Cooper, Jr. was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. Raised and surrounded by educators, Cooper attended Dallas ISD schools and graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in 1989 before going on to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree from Paul Quinn College. Cooper followed in the footsteps of his parents and pursued a career in education serving as a Physical Education teacher at K. B. Polk Elementary Vanguard in Dallas ISD for 10 years. During that time, Cooper began his quest for personal and spiritual development and attended the Criswell College of Biblical Studies where he earned a Master of Arts in Christian Leadership in 2004. In 2006, Cooper was enlisted to serve in full-time ministry by the late Dr. Karry D. Wesley at the Antioch Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas. Cooper now serves as Senior Pastor of Elijah Fellowship Community Church in Desoto. Cooper is also a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and is a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Lambda Graduate chapter of the fraternity.  He also serves as a board member for TEL International Missionary Society. 

A DeSoto resident for more than 22 years, Cooper has been actively engaged in service to the DeSoto ISD school community by volunteering at Desoto West Middle School’s former Male Leadership Program and serving as the DeSoto Eagles Football team’s chaplain. As an active member of the DeSoto community, Cooper plans to focus his work as a trustee on supporting organizational health and wellness with the goal of improving culture to enhance student learning. 

Cooper is happily married to his wife, Dionne. The Coopers have one son, who currently attends DeSoto High School and a daughter, a 2019 graduate of DeSoto High School and currently attends Texas Christian University.
