DeSoto Independent School District approves plan to more competitively compensate teachers
DeSoto ISD is pleased to announce its 2022-2023 teacher compensation plan approved by the Board of Trustees during a special called meeting on June 8, 2022.
The revised compensation model for the upcoming academic year offers every teacher and counselor in DeSoto ISD a $6,500 increase and a starting teacher salary of $58,500--the highest starting teacher salary in the Best Southwest, the phrase commonly used to describe the southern Dallas suburbs of DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Duncanville and Lancaster, Texas.
In addition to creating more competitive teacher salaries, the District has increased its monthly insurance contribution and retains other incentives like math, English language arts and reading (ELAR), science, bilingual and foreign languages.
With this in mind, the DeSoto ISD plans to host a series of job fairs this summer designed to attract, recruit and hire high-quality teacher talent.
“Our goal as a school system is to ensure that we are 100 percent staffed for the upcoming academic year,” DeSoto ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Usamah Rodgers said. “We know that strong teachers are vital to the District’s ability to offer high quality, responsive instruction that will advance student achievement in DeSoto ISD, and that’s why we chose to invest in creating a competitive compensation package for our teachers.”
