The DeSoto Independent School District invites the school community to join the district in celebrating the contributions, dedication, and impact of our outgoing school board trustee Dr. DeAndrea Fleming. The reception is set for the Belt Line Conference Center, located at 200 E. Belt Line Road on Tuesday, May 14 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

As an elected volunteer, Dr. Fleming worked alongside her peers to establish a vision, provide guidance, maintain structure, and access to resources and program funding to ensure that the district can consistently fulfill its mission of ensuring that all students, without exception, achieve to their highest levels.

Trustee Fleming’s Bio
Dr. DeAndrea Fleming is an advocate, ally, and thought leader in the advancement and equity of education for students and communities of all socioeconomic compositions. Dr. Fleming began her path in education as a classroom teacher and coach before assuming educational leadership roles in both large and small urban and suburban school systems. Deeply passionate about education, Dr. Fleming shifted her position of educational advocacy to serve as a trustee for the DeSoto Independent School District following her 2018 appointment to the district’s Board of Trustees.
Currently serving as Board President for the DeSoto ISD, Dr. Fleming also previously served as the 2018-2019 Regional Vice President of the Texas Caucus of Black School Board Members and is an active member of NABSE (National Association of Black School Educators), TABSE (Texas Association of Black School Educators), and SWABSE (Southwest Dallas County Alliance of Black School Educators) where she serves as the Immediate Past-President after having held Executive Board roles as President, President-Elect, and Parliamentarian.
In light of her sincere dedication and service to educational advocacy and leadership, Dr. Fleming was named the TABSE School Board Member of the Year and the SWDCABSE School Board Member of the Year in 2019. That same year, Dr. Fleming testified before the State Board of Education in Austin to support the design and implementation of an African American Studies Course framework for students in the state of Texas.
The following year, in 2020, Dr. Fleming earned the highest attainment of Master Trustee through Leadership TASB (Texas Association of School Boards). Since 2020, Dr. Fleming has served as a TASB delegate assisting in creating policies lobbied in upcoming Legislative Sessions and provided insight on panels regarding superintendency, athletic administration, and Social-Emotional Learning. Given her platform, Dr. Fleming used her voice and platform to speak out as an activist against existent injustices in educational systems and communities of color.
A 25-year member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Dr. Fleming holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing with a minor in African American Studies; a master's degree in Training and Development, Divinity and dual Master of Education Degrees in Education Administration and Education Technology. Dr. Fleming recently completed a Ph.D. in Christian Leadership with a specialization in Clinical Christian Counseling.
With more than 20 years of experience in education, Dr. Fleming is deeply knowledgeable about improving educational policy for equity and academics in low socio-economic, high-at-risk school districts. A resourceful, multi-faceted leader with a wide range of skills, Dr. Fleming has a proven track record of improving student outcomes; impactful school board governance and policy leadership; organizational operations, personnel, and budget management; and community engagement.
