The DeSoto ISD is committed to the professional development of all employees (i.e., administrators, principals, teachers, and support staff) for the purpose of improving student achievement through a collaborative district-wide effort. Professional Development is a comprehensive, sustained, and intensive approach to improving all stakeholders’ effectiveness in raising student achievement.

In accordance with DeSoto ISD’s Strategic Plan, the Professional Development Department strives to promote and support innovative and exemplary professional development in order to continuously enhance teaching and full engagement.

In planning, implementation, and evaluation of professional development, we ask:

  • What do students need to know and be able to do?
  • What do educators need to know and be able to do?
  • What professional development will ensure educators acquire the necessary skills and knowledge for implementation?
  • How will we know the impact on student learning?
